Wild Honey and Full Moons
Wild Honey and Full Moons (14 Days / 13 Nights)
Day 1 & 2: You might even have caught a glimpse of Nairobi Tented Camp as you flew over Nairobi National Park into Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Within minutes of landing, you are amidst the herds of impala, zebra, eland, hertbeeste and buffalo that wander up from the Great Rift Valley for a weekend city break. And as you adjust to the subtle camouflage of the wildlife, you spot rhino and lion among the grasses. Your first night under canvas is wild – the nocturnal hyenas laugh in the darkness outside your tent. Tomorrow, you’ll meet the mischievous young elephants at the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage and, if you can overcome your initial aversion to his very long black tongue, you’ll hand feed the rare Rothschild’s Giraffe at the Giraffe Centre.
Day 3 – 5: You’ll welcome the solitude and intimacy of Elsa’s Kopje, Meru National Park. From the air, you’ll notice the land beneath you striped with 16 rivers that sustain the abundance of wildlife in this area. Spend three days unwinding and indulging yourselves in the honeymoon suite on the rocks of Mughwango Hill.
Day 6 – 8: Chase the sun in your private charter as it soars up over the equator towards Maasai Mara. You’ll share one of the wonders of the natural world – the annual wildebeest migration from the parched Serengeti to the verdure of the rains. Look closely, and you’ll see the predators in their wake – lions, cheetahs and vultures. And maybe you’d like to visit Maasai Boma, a tribal village, to see how the local people live. At Elephant Pepper tented camp, you’ll experience the refined serenity of the bush and watch the plains turn silver under the blue moon.
Day 9 – 15: Leave the singing grasses and head for the shores of Vamizi Island off the coast of Mozambique. Be seduced by the aphrodisiac sea food, fresh from the reef. Wander barefoot the dazzling white beach, count the cowries, and let the ebb and flow of the Indian Ocean erase your sense of time. You might see the curve of a hump-backed whale way out in the blue, or swim with turtles off Neptune’s Arm, one of the best diving sites in the world. After sundown, when the air is velvet against your cheek, perfumed with jasmine and frangipani, follow the floating lights across the bay over the rim of your cocktail glass, far, far out to sea.
